Being diagnosed with any type of cancer is beyond scary. This is especially true if you are dealing with mesothelioma because this type is not widely known and treated. If you are facing this devastating situation you need to take the proper steps to ensure that you are getting the best treatment and moving forward in the best way from a financial point of view.

The first step after being diagnosed with mesothelioma is finding a doctor that knows how to treat this disease. Remember, you will want to see the best of the best to ensure that you are receiving top notch care. Some doctors have experience treating cancer, but you want to make sure that you are involved with one who knows a lot about mesothelioma as well. This will better your chances of survival.

What about hiring a lawyer? As you probably know, in most cases mesothelioma is traced to asbestos exposure. If you were not told that exposure could cause mesothelioma you may have a case against your former employer, etc. This is something that you should consider as soon as you are setup with the best doctors. While a lawsuit will not help your health, it is something that you deserve. Many mesothelioma cases have been settled for millions of dollars.

If you are diagnosed with mesothelioma it is important that you follow the steps above. Above all else, make sure that you are receiving the best treatment. And don’t forget to find a mesothelioma lawyer who can help you file a lawsuit, and hopefully receive restitution for the pain and suffering that you have been caused.

Have you been diagnosed with mesothelioma? If so, you are probably well aware that this is very serious. In fact, mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer and one that needs to be treated as soon as it is diagnosed. Unfortunately, many people die from mesothelioma each and every year.

How do you get mesothelioma? Almost every case of this type of cancer is traced back to exposure to asbestos. Even though this product is no longer used in construction, it can still be found in older structures. Additionally, even if you were exposed to asbestos many years ago you are not out of the dark. There is a chance that you may begin to show signs of mesothelioma sooner or later. Of course, this is not something that you should sit back and worry about. Instead, it is good to keep this in mind and let your doctor check you out at least once per year.

While your first order of business is to treat mesothelioma, you should also realize that you may be able to seek legal recourse. In other words, you may have a case in which you can be awarded quite a bit of money; often times more than a million dollars. This will never be enough to make you feel better about your diagnosis, but you should do what you can to get what you deserve.

It is never easy to deal with any cancer diagnosis, and mesothelioma is no exception. If you or a family member is facing this, take the time to seek the best treatment and then contact a lawyer who specializes in this area.

Scientists have reportedly found a mouse model to help gain better insight
into human malignant mesothelioma (MM).

They hope the new model will enable them to find out more information about the progression and development of the illness.

Malignant Mesothelioma

Malignant Mesothelioma is a unique form of cancer that originates in lining of the mesothelial pleural cavity and is linked to asbestos exposure.

Although chemotherapy is currently used to treat malignant mesothelioma, researchers have yet to find a cure for this fatal illness.

Studies Conducted

Malignant Mesothelioma has been associated with genetic lesions in humans and typically results in the loss of Neurofibromatosis type 2 or (NF2).

Researchers have reportedly found that the majority of mice with Nf2 mutations have eventually developed malignant mesothelioma.

“Our mouse models should be suitable to further dissect pathways critically important in the mesothelioma development and progression and serve as invaluable tools to test new intervention strategies,” explains Dr. Berns, a researcher from the Netherlands Cancer Institute.

People who have received asbestos exposure of as little as one or two months to very low doses are at risk of mesothelioma cancer. Even people who wash clothes of asbestos exposed people are at risk. A person exposed to asbestos could develop mesothelioma after 50 years of exposure.

People in the occupations such as construction jobs in shipyards, insulators, boilermakers, etc. are at the risk of contracting asbestos disease.

The 2 common types of mesothelioma are:

Pleural mesothelioma (lung cancer) and Peritoneal mesothelioma (abdomen organs).

The survival time for a patient with diffuse malignant mesothelioma is from 4 to 24 months from the observance of the symptoms. Mesothelioma is also difficult to diagnose.

The chance of recovery for a patient with mesothelioma depends on size and location of the cancer, age of the patient and his response to the treatment.

Presently, the treatment options for mesotheliomas are:
Radiation therapy
Chemotherapy
Surgery and Photodynamic therapy

There is some evidence that provitamin A or beta-carotene may decrease the risk of mesothelioma.

A new study regarding pleural mesothelioma cancer is set to begin and researchers are currently in the process of recruiting patients.

Pleural mesothelioma is a fatal form of cancer that is caused by asbestos exposure, which consists of fibers that are extremely harmful when ingested or inhaled.

Mesothelioma Combination Therapy Focus of Study

Until now, the standard treatment for mesothelioma cancer has been to remove the patient’s lung, which can be a risky surgery.

However, researchers are looking to start treating patients using combination therapy, which consists of both targeted radiation and chemotherapy.

Researchers are hoping that this form of therapy will give patients a beneficial and less evasive option for mesothelioma treatment than surgery.

Mesothelioma Patients Participating in the Study

Patients who participate in the study will reportedly receive several rounds of targeted chemotherapy which is administered using a surgically implanted catheter.

Patients may also elect to have additional surgical mesothelioma treatments including the removal of the lung and will be offered chemotherapy on an outpatient basis.

Researchers are hoping that the combination therapy will help kill the cancer cells on the surface of the lung while sparing other parts.

Information regarding Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma recently got updated at the 12 th World Conference on Lung Cancer.

Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma is a tumor that arises from the pleural and peritoneal cavities and is linked to asbestos exposure.

Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Statistics

According to reports, there are over 2,000 cases of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma diagnosed annually in the U.S.

About 80 percent of cases reportedly originate in the pleura.

Patients who suffer from this illness typically experience chest pain and symptoms of dyspnea.

For patients in the early stages of the disease, systemic treatment with chemotherapy has been administered and has been temporarily successful.

Systemic Therapy

For patients suffering from Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma, a combination treatment that mixes cisplatin and pemetrexed has become the standard therapy used.

A study was recently conducted analyzing patients with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma who were receiving this type of treatment.

In the study, some patients were given cisplatin alone while others were given cisplatin with pemetrexed.

Researchers found that there was the most progression and benefits in receiving the combination of both and those treated this way had a longer mesothelioma survival rate.
