Well my 75 year old grandpa just was diaognosed with lung cancer and i am worried that he might die soon =[ . Could he die within this year or can he still live for another 10 years. i would ask him my self, but i do not want to pressure him/make him nervous..

My wonderful cat, Pounce, was just diagnosed today with lung cancer. He is only 10 years old. We are non-smokers. How would he get this? We are just devastated as we love him so much. He’s lost some weight and is limping. The vet gave us some meds to help with pain and increase his appetite to help stop the weight loss. Besides this and lots of love, is there anything else we can do?

I have heard of people getting lung cancer 10 years after they quit. Can I get tested to see if I could get it? Note: I don’t smoke anymore.

For example, how much does an average person have to smoke to get lung cancer (one pack a day for 10 years? one pack a month for 40 years, etc.)

I need this information for a school report I’m writing on the affects of various drugs, so please provide links to anywhere you might have gotten your facts from, thanks!

Lots of people smoke without getting lung cancer. Plus smoking doesn’t cause other types of cancer. How long can I smoke until I get cancer? I figue I got 10 years of smoking that I can enjoy.
But all the cool celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Applegate and Swazye smoke. And they are all fine.

Before putting in a carpet about 10 years ago and I pulled up the old carpet that the previous owner installed. It was glued indoor/outdoor carpeting. There was tile under the carpet but because it was stuck to the foam underside of the carpet I had to take up all the tiles. The house was built in 1963. I scrubbed the floor before the new carpet was laid. I did not know anything about wearing a respirator mask while doing this job. Also, our utility room has loose tiles (some broken) exposing the concrete floor due to water heater flood etc. Been living here for 30 years. Do I have to worry about the effects of asbestos from not knowing? I don’t feel sick and I am in relatively good health. I just found out this information on the web while considering taking up the carpet to lay new vinyl tiles.

I’ve lived in a rental house for 10 years that has asbestos shingles and asbestos insulation on the heater pipe. I had breathing problems since 2002 and after getting health insurance in 05 found out i have asthma. Can this be related to my home environment? It’s a very old (1920) house that the landlord refuses to renovate "because he keeps my rent low". Well he has no choice because of rent control laws here, but I do like the row rent for the location. Problem is I’m concerned it’s killing me. I wish he would renovate.
Last year I had a terrible mold problem that he also refused to do anything about. I had to clean myself. What recourses do I have?

I just read an article on asbestos and did some research on it… I then looked right beside me and I have a fireplace with a fluffy, wooly material that surrounds it.

I found a picture that looks VERY similar to what I have and it is definetly asbestos

http://www.inspect-ny.com/sickhouse/asbestos/GasFireplace002DF-RH.jpg

My house is over 35 years old and I have been living here for 10 years and spending A LOT of time in this room

I understand that asbestos is only spread if disturbed… there is a window right beside my fireplace and im pretty sure the wind is likely spreading fibres around

I do not have any respitory problems but it is said to take 10 – 40 years to develop

I am nervous now.. how do I get rid of this stuff without disturbing it… and what if there is more?

what should i do?
