My mom died of mesothelioma, which is the asbestos cancer, last year. We have no idea where she was exosed so I am trying to learn as much as I can about the places she lived. She lived at Carswell in the fifties. I would like to know if anybody knows anything about Carswell, or the area surrounding it. If there are any factories around that area, or how far away it is from the Summit and 5th streets (because 19 mesothelioma cases were diagnosed in that area).

Just any info you have would be helpful. Thanks so much!

I lived with my sons grandparents for about 6 years in the early 90′s and the grandfather passed away from asbestos cancer in his stomach about 12 years ago. Knowing that our clothes were washed together and being a part of the household, would it be possible? My son brought it up today and now it has concerned me.

My grandfather has been recently diagnosed with asbestos cancer. He has lost a significant amount of weight. He hardly eats anymore. My family is very worried. We went to his house for dinner today and he is literally wasting away. His doctors have given him different medication to try to get him to want to eat, but they all had negative side effects so they took him off of them. He is still not eating, so my family is trying to find something more natural that is a good appetite stimulant. (I already tried to convince him to smoke pot, but he won’t)
Thank you so much for any advice!

Hey i am planning on going into the Northampton State Hospital in Massachusetts soon to take pictures, but they have signs around and on the buildings saying Asbestos, cancer, and lung disease. I am only going in for about an hour, but I don’t want to get contaminated. What would be the proper face-mask to wear? I was thinking about those ones the doctors use or the paper ones you can buy from home depot. Are these safe? I’d rather not go and buy a face mask.

Thanks
Thanks for the tip, I didnt think that amount of time would be bad… The place isn’t being worked on, it’s just sitting there empty so the asbestos fibers shouldn’t be disrupted.

Hi

This might sound like a silly question but anyway – I was at a place in school where I shouldn’t of been (bad, I know!) – it’s a small room filled with pipes and so on. I noticed that there boxes marked "CONTAINS ABESTOS" – overall, I spent about 30 minutes in the room about 5 times (so…6 hours over time). I don’t know if the asbestos was exposed and I did not touch or open the boxes. The only time I was near the boxes was when I noticed the warning sign.

At such a short exposure is it possible that I could have asbestos cancer in later life? I know it is of course possible but I’m sort of interested in a "very unlikely but still possible" reply (or if that isn’t the case…what you think!)

Thanks
