Asbestos in my house… HELP!?
I just read an article on asbestos and did some research on it… I then looked right beside me and I have a fireplace with a fluffy, wooly material that surrounds it.
I found a picture that looks VERY similar to what I have and it is definetly asbestos

My house is over 35 years old and I have been living here for 10 years and spending A LOT of time in this room
I understand that asbestos is only spread if disturbed… there is a window right beside my fireplace and im pretty sure the wind is likely spreading fibres around
I do not have any respitory problems but it is said to take 10 – 40 years to develop
I am nervous now.. how do I get rid of this stuff without disturbing it… and what if there is more?
what should i do?

Get a gauze mask same with the people in your house and kindly burn the fireplace. Then pour it with water. But do not remove your gauze mask. And check if there is any signs of asbestos particles left. And if there is no more, call the repairman to repair your house and buy new fire place.
Hope I helped. :)

Don’t panic, it may be ordinary fiberglass tinted by years of smoke you are concerned about, but in any case, do not attempt to remove it by yourself. look in the yellow pages, or call your town office to ask for advice. Should it turn out to be asbestos, you will need to have your entire home professionally inspected and have the asbestos removed.
Whatever the case, leave this matter, both inspection and (if needed) removal, to the pros. Until the matter is solved, try to minimize you, and your family’s exposure.
