Asbestos in my house… HELP!?
I just read an article on asbestos and did some research on it… I then looked right beside me and I have a fireplace with a fluffy, wooly material that surrounds it.
I found a picture that looks VERY similar to what I have and it is definetly asbestos

My house is over 35 years old and I have been living here for 10 years and spending A LOT of time in this room
I understand that asbestos is only spread if disturbed… there is a window right beside my fireplace and im pretty sure the wind is likely spreading fibres around
I do not have any respitory problems but it is said to take 10 – 40 years to develop
I am nervous now.. how do I get rid of this stuff without disturbing it… and what if there is more?
what should i do?

If you should know how much this stuff was used almost everywhere.
In my previous job the whole ceiling was full with it(hamburger restaurant in Antwerp-Belgium), They took it out while the restaurant was still open. When the manager knew that I knew it was Asbestos he was furious (and afraid) someone else heard it to and spreaded the news to the whole crew.Thousands of people went to that restaurant that time and where eating under it and working under it.
About your matter, Asbestos can be removed by specialized firms, cost a lot not everyone likes to do it.

chances are, if your house is old enough, that isn’t the only form of asbestos in the house. if you’re really paranoid, there are companies that can come and remove it. don’t do it yourself! get a professional.
