Can Social smoking lead to lung cancer or other diseases?

Mesothelioma FAQs
I am a social smoker. Usually 2 at a time when I drink or out with friends. On average I smoke no more than 3 cigarettes a week. This obviously isnt good for my health. Does this behavior increase my chances of lung cancer or other diseases the same way smoking a pack a day can?

Think about it….second hand smoke has been linked to lung cancer. You are inhaling direct nicotine and smoke. Now what do you think?
Yes, it can and does cause lung cancer regardless of how little amount you smoke. You are also at a potential risk for bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, asthma and more. You’ll do yourself good if you quit.

yep, even nonsmokers get lung cancer. Anyone can get any kind of cancer. Why increase your odds?

Smoking increases your risk of lung cancer. Yes, a person how smokes several packs a day is at greater risk than you are, but that does not mean that you are not at risk.

Any and all smoking leads to lung cancer. Even 2nd hand. So if you want to smoke then do it because chances are you will die from someone else’s smoke anyhow. Enjoy it.

Let’s put it this way….if you smoke socially….you might as well be a regular smoker.
Obviously smoking 3 a wk will not give you cancer as fast as a pack a day….but you will still end up w/ cancer won’t you???
(i smoke a pack a day! bad me!)

Yes it can. Just being around someone who is smoking can lead to lung cancer. You put yourself at a higher percentage of risk with every cigarett you smoke. I suggest you stop now wail its just something you do to pass time, if you wait it could be harder. The cool thing is to NOT smoke, smoking is out this year…..LOL

Regardless of how much or little you smoke, the same health problems are there for you. Besides the usual lung cancer, asthma, bronchitis, and other breathing problems, you can also get lip, throat, tongue, and gum cancer. All of these are disfiguring as well as potentially lethal. Unlike lung cancer (if you even survive), the scars from these surgeries are clearly visible forever.
Stop now, before it becomes a pack-a-day or more habit. All bigger smoking habits started as a couple here and there. I don’t know of anyone that began smoking as much as they do now.

Hi,
Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn’t addicted!
Here’s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy….none worked.
I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it’s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!
I don’t know if they still have that deal, but it’s worth a try.
