please no comments on smoking in general is bad for you, i just want to know how light smoking influences lung cancer. Ive read some research on light smoking saying that for men especially, only the risk of heart diseases was significantly increased after 6 cigarettes. thank you

Smoking is one risk factor for lung cancer. There is not way to determine how much a single risk factor or all of them may increase anyone’s risk for it. People who never smoked get lung cancer. People who smoked 40-50 years do not. We don’t know what causes cancer.

It may come now, it may come later, but it will come.

it might not have any effect on you if you continue at a 2-3 pace, however you will probably get more of a tolerance for cigaretts and you will start having more than 2 or 3 per day and then you will be at more of a risk

Depends on genetics, and depends on luck – good or bad. My sister died of lung cancer and didn’t smoke. But it’s your choice and your gamble. If I were you, I’d quit smoking. There is nothing good about it.

Are you eating healthy? Are you exercising? Are you taking care of yourself? If you are you should be fine. If you are eating processed foods, not taking care of yourself, in general, and stressing about every single thing, every single day for ten years, you might get it, otherwise, I wouldn’t worry about it.

The risk of getting lung cancer if you don’t smoke is less than 1%.
If you’ve smoked a pack a day for 10-20 years, it’s about 2%.
If you’ve smoked a pack a day for 50 years, it’s about 16%.
Remember though, smoking doesn’t just increase the risk of lung cancer. It increases the risk of many cancers, plus stroke, plus heart disease, plus other lung diseases.
But, to answer your question, if you smoke 2-3 cigarettes a day, the risk of getting lung cancer is very low, but much higher than that of non-smokers.
