My dad is 43 an has stomach and lung cancer since 2006 he beat it once but it came back and its worse. I would like to kno what his chances of beating it again are?

He has his age on his side, and depending on his present state of health has a lot to do with if he can beat it down again. Normally second time around its fast and furious, but since its been three years, his body may be able to cope with the treatments again. Plus there are new drugs to try then there were three years ago.

You are not being very clear. Your dad is very young for either type of cancer and it is very unlikely he had both. He probably had stomach cancer that spread to his lungs. I am sorry to tell you if this, but if this is the case, he didn’t beat it the first time, but his treatment worked very well. Treatment at this stage is to prolong life with the best quality possible, but it is not curable.

I AM VERY SORRY TO HEAR THAT MY DAD DIED LAST YEAR FROM CANCER OF THE LUNGS AND SPREAD TO THE BRAIN THE DOCTOR TOLD US THE TREATMENT WAS TO PROLONG HIS LIFE I WOULD IMAGINE IT DEPENDS ON WHAT STAGE HE IS IN AND HOW WELL HE CAN TOLERATE THE CHEM OR RADIATION I THINK AFTER A WHILE THE BODY GETS USED OR THE CANCER TO THE TREATMENT AND SOMETIMES DOES NOT WORK AS WELL YOU NEED TO SEE WHAT TREATMENTS ARE AVAILABLE THEY PUT MY DAD ON SOME EXPERIMENTAL MEDS THAT ALMOST GOT RID OF IT THEN THE CANCER GOT IMMUNED AND HE COULD ONLY DO IT FOR 6 WEEKS PLEASE SEE WHAT OPTIONS ARE OUT THERE AND TALK TO THE DOCTOR ALSO GET A SECOND OPINION THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT FINDS HOPE WITH MULTIPLE DOCTORS AS THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT IN THE TREATMENT THAT THEY CHOOSE GOOD LUCK

My dad also had stomach/pancreas cancer, they weren’t sure where it originated from. He passed away 10 months later. I wish I had done more then and had the knowledge that I do now. It took us several months to even convince him to try the Mayo Clinic. I feel like if we had gone sooner they might have been able to do something. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and demand answers. Who cares if you offend the doctor or anyone else, this is your dad’s life! Most importantly don’t have regrets in case the worst does happen. Say what you want to say and spend time together even if prognosis is good. This is your dad and he won’t be around forever unfortunatley. I wish you good luck!

If the cancer cells are the same type as the first time around he’s had a three year remission. Unfortunately the second time around the cancer is usually much more aggressive. And the treatment is rougher on the body. So your dad may get a lot sicker this time around. However with newer drugs and treatments, or a clinical trial he can go into remission again. Possibly for years.
He has age on his side. The downside is that it’s his second time around. He needs his family support team like never before. Just be there for him and love him all you can. He’s your dad. you only get one in this life.

Stomach cancer is one of the most common types of cancers. Almost a million people get diagnosed with stomach cancer every year throughout the world … Stomach Cancer:
Growth of carcinogenic cells in stomach leads to cancer of stomach. There are mainly two types of stomach cancer known as intestinal stomach cancer (this type of cancer is common in people of old age) and diffuse type (which is common in people of certain group, surprisingly people in certain geographical area such as Japan, Korea etc. are more prone to stomach cancer than any other place on earth). Most of the sufferers of stomach cancer are people above age 70 and majority of which involve men patients.
Who is at risk?
People who eat less or no vegetables and more preservative added food or junk food are at highest risk of developing stomach cancer. Also people in their old age (people of age group 65 and above) are at high risk. Along with the above specified possible risk groups, people who are suffering (or those who had history of) from certain types of diseases such as Achlorhydria, Pernicious Anaemia, bacterial infections of stomach (helicobacter pylori). People who smoke are also at high risk of developing stomach cancer.
In some cases, stomach cancer has been witnessed to be hereditary (Although this scenario is very rare, any possibility cannot be denied).
Diagnosis of Stomach Cancer:
There are quite a couple of tests used to confirm stomach cancer in patients, however endoscopy is highly trusted test which varies in complexity based on the situation. Blood sample test and biopsy (samples of cells from the inside lining of the stomach are taken) can also be utilized in order to find out any abnormality. A small robotic tool is used to take pictures of inside of the stomach to find out any abnormal growth which can act as an alarm raiser. Ultrasound scanning also can be used to diagnose stomach cancer. Barium meal (white barium liquid) test also can be used to diagnose this disease in which once the liquid is consumed by the patient, the patient’s stomach is examined using X-rays. Along with the above specified techniques, there are many other screening tests available for diagnosis of stomach cancer such as gastroscopy, biopsy and microscopy etc.
What are the symptoms of stomach cancer?
Stomach cancer shows very little or almost no symptoms in its early stage. Occasionally, patient may experience a very light stomach ache. Once the cancer starts growing strong, patient may experience severe stomach ache, loss of weight due to loss of appetite, blood in stool, bloating problem (or bloated feeling) after eating anything, abdominal pain and discomfort, any type of change in bowel habits, Ascites, Jaundice and nausea are few of the symptoms those make life difficult for the patient. With the advancement of time, new techniques are also being invented to confirm the growth of stomach cancer.
What are the different type of treatments available for stomach cancer?
Like any other type of cancers, treatment options for stomach cancer also involve chemotherapy, surgery and medication. In most of the cases, surgery is used to remove a part of or entire stomach. Success of surgery in stomach cancer depends on the stage in which stomach cancer was detected (which is very low as most of the cases are diagnosed in advanced stage of stomach cancer). At times, the treatment of stomach cancer may include combination of surgery and medication to help eliminate carcinogen cells from body after a surgery to remove infected part of or entire stomach. Radiotherapy and biological therapy (also known as immunological therapy) are also used to destroy carcinogen cells from the patient’s body. Along with the above mentioned treatment methods, there are many other methods and drugs currently under trial.
Most of the treatments specified above show significant side effects on the patient’s health, hence it is very important to follow a proper diet regime and medication in order to cope up with the problems caused by those side effects.
How should I minimize my risk of stomach cancer?
1) Quit smoking, as smokers are at the highest risk level of developing any type of cancer.
2) Try to include vegetables and fruits in your daily diet and avoid junk or processed food.
3) Try to avoid toxic substances such as chemicals etc. Take necessary precautions before you handle such things.
4) Exercise regularly in order to stay fit and active.
