Loss of taste can possibly be with his type of lung cancer or medications he's taking that makes food not taste good. My dad gave up before treatment started and he made comments about food not tasting good. Just be there for your friend. He could be in the process of giving up before treatment begins.

My Mum had secondary lung cancer and about 3 weeks before she past she didnt eat anything and lost her voice.. Hard to say without knowing his situation fully. Depends what stage he is at????
