Venezuela’s Chavez could face bolder opposition
With Venezuela’s presidential election planned for October, 2012 will be a year of great uncertainty for the country, whose left-wing leader, Hugo Chavez, is again running for office after nearly 13 years in power. For the first time in a decade, Chavez’s approval ratings do not guarantee his victory. Inefficiency, unaccountability, waste, and corruption have helped weaken support for the government. Nevertheless, and despite the after-effects of his recent cancer treatment, Chavez is still determined to do battle. Al Jazeera’s Lucia Newman reports from Caracas.

@escorpionrojo74 What crimes are those? evidence please!! Chavez IS the only president in latin america who truly do justice to the less fortunate and poor classes.. only hated by the riches or people who are afraid of change.

yep you can notice how Aljazeera is the FOX/CNN of the middle east. They always biased to the Neoliberalism and USA / NATO imposed rules and views..Thats why they will have less and less news to report about LAtin America..other than drugs violence since most counttries there are moving away of the imperialistic powers who seek world domination.

this is such inaccurate reporting. The trash on the street is due to the opposition sympathizers who own to garbage trucks and boycott collecting it. They think they are proving Chavez is incompetent or some other foolish thoughts. Chavez was and is a miracle for Venezuela and the people know it. Bad reporting Al Jaz, bad.

@Xsublime28xX I know these slums are there since long time ago, as in other Latin american Countries, BUT, as Chavez is also a long time president, spending millions in social programs and it’s been ineffective. In Brazil, there’s a social program that give to very poor people some money help, and they manage it as they want. Brazilian State doesn’t subsidize almost anything to anyone, despite this social program, and politicians don’t do anything to replace slums for healthy & safe housing.

@Xsublime28xX Slums and housing, health care, good education, gap between rich and poor people and urban violence are the biggest challenges in all Latin American Countries along with regular economic growth.
